CourtCorrect has been invited by Grant Thornton UK to attend an upcoming conference entitled “Shaping Tomorrow: The Future of Consumer Protection in the Digital Age” on 6 November 2024.

The Event

In the historic city of Dublin, this forum will offer a chance to join the forefront of discussion around consumer interest in the digital age. Other listed speakers include:

  • Wesley Murphy, Head of Consumer Protection Supervision for The Central Bank of Ireland

Wesley Murphy is responsible for the retail conduct supervision of the Banking and Retail Credit sectors, and has previously supervised the Insurance and Intermediary sectors. Prior to joining the Consumer Protection Directorate, he was the Head of Resolution and Crisis Management at the Central Bank. He has extensive previous experience in policy development, and before joining the national regulatory authority in 2012, worked in the banking industry for 12+ years in treasury and asset & liability management.

  • Tara McDermott, Director of Customer Operations and Information Management for The Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman

Tara McDermott joined Ireland’s Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman (FSPO) in December 2017 as Director of Information and Investigation Services, and later took up the new position of Director of Customer Operations and Information Management. She has previously held various Civil Service roles (including as a member of the start-up team in the Office of Government Procurement and the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission) and holds various qualifications in Supervisory Management and Procurement.

Why Consumer Protection Matters

Whilst the digital age represents a new world of possibilities for client-consumer relationships, it also presents new risks for businesses and customers alike. The ongoing surge of complaints across the financial services sector (and beyond) is proof that UK firms have further to go towards addressing these challenges, as rising digital scams place greater emphasis on the need for protection of vulnerable customers.

In this changing landscape, technology is the key to transforming customer relationships: building trust through protection. However, it must be leveraged carefully, effectively, and in full alignment with the standards enforced by governments and regulatory bodies. This Forum comes at a crucial time, as CourtCorrect looks to the future and helps complaints teams navigate the challenges of the digital age.
